Saab Medical Library
Ras Beirut, Lebanon
The design of the 200 sqm Ibn Sina Medical Museum in the American University of Beirut Saab Medical Library mezzanine is based on the placement of five key objects, evoking cellular organs. The translucent bar and the metallic cone, whose interior is entirely red, house the University's rare book collection, including a treasured first-edition of Ibn Sina's famous medical treatise. Four classrooms are drawn together in a gigantic display case while the mitochondria-like Problem-Based Learning Space encourages playful interpretations of group-based learning.
