Nicely Fourth Floor
Ras Beirut, Lebanon
Distilling some of the ideas applied in the original Nicely Prototype Classrooms, the American University of Beirut’s vision to renovate their learning spaces extended to the refurbishment of the fourth floor of the university's main classroom building, Nicely Hall.

The design approach is to reinforce engaged learning with minimal means. The external strategy is to unify the facade through the creation of sliding colored shades and carving out transparent frames between each classroom. While the ceilings create simple geometric shapes using top-lit polycarbonate panels, the colorful furniture remains loose and light to support spontaneous configurations, create multiple settings, and encourage group work.
