Jafet Library Ground Floor
Ras Beirut, Lebanon
The American University of Beirut’s Jafet Library, as the main campus’s knowledge commons, is treated as a world of its own where multiple settings and parallel universes coexist. The spatial layers begin metaphorically outside the university campus as the user enters through several thresholds – AUB Main Gate, the College Hall arcade, and the plaza – before actually entering the library. Inside, spatial interventions recall elements of storybooks that blur the distinctions between the real world, fiction, and human knowledge.
