Villa Zibawi
Majdalyoun, Lebanon
A large piece of stone is carved to create two adjoining 750 sqm family homes, intertwined by a series of courtyards at the scale of the family, unit, and individual. The central courtyards interconnect to create a cascading landscape with two water features reaching the main garden and revealing the valley view. The east and west courtyards provide more intimate settings, one for a private courtyard and the other for a private pool and deck. These carvings reveal an inner skin with wood cladding whose warmth and intimate scale contrast with the stone exterior. In the interior, materials and soft layers interplay to reflect the variety of settings.
